Museum of the Southwest announces return of summer concert series

By Jade

Museum of the Southwest will host its 39th annual Summer Sunday Lawn Concerts each Sunday in June, offering free live music on the museum grounds.

Concerts are scheduled from 7 to 9 p.m., with gates opening at 6 p.m.

The series opens June 7 with The Midlandaires Band, sponsored by Tierra Company LP. The Croakin’ Toads will perform June 14 with support from Elevation Resources. Michael Lyn Hudson & The Pump Handle Vandals are set for June 21, sponsored by West Texas National Bank. The series concludes June 28 with INSUFFICIENT FUNDS, sponsored by Community National Bank.

Food and drink trucks will be on site for each event. The museum will sell popcorn and water. Weekly raffles will offer prizes and museum merchandise, and children’s activities will include hula hoops, ribbon wands and sidewalk chalk.

Attendees may bring outside food, beverages, lawn chairs and picnic items.

“Thirty-nine years is a testament to something special, and that something is this community,” said Dwight Alworth, interim executive director. “The Summer Sunday Lawn Concerts started as live music on the lawn of the Turner Mansion with an open invitation. Nearly four decades later, it has grown into one of our favorite summer traditions in West Texas.”

Alworth said sponsor support allows the concerts to remain free and open to the public.
