Police are investigating after a reported threat prompted a large law enforcement response Monday at the Walmart near John Ben Sheppard Highway and 42nd Street, authorities said.

The incident began around 2:37 p.m. when dispatch received a call from a person using a voice-enhanced program on what officials described as a “burner phone,” according to the Odessa Police Department.

Police said the caller claimed to have a gun and bomb and made threats involving the Walmart location.

Officers responded to the store and searched the building and parking lot. Authorities said investigators found no evidence of an active shooter and determined there was no threat to the public.

No arrests have been made, and the investigation remains ongoing, police said.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Odessa Police Department at 432-333-3641 and reference Case No. 26-0004906 or contact Odessa Crime Stoppers.
