The Midland RockHounds scored 13 runs on 15 hits Thursday night to defeat the Corpus Christi Hooks 13-1 at Whataburger Field, snapping a season-high five-game losing streak.

Midland erased an early 1-0 deficit with a three-run third inning that began with a bunt single from Euribiel Angeles. The inning included five consecutive hits, highlighted by RBI singles from Cole Conn, Leo De Vries and Brennan Milone.

The RockHounds added five more runs in the fourth inning. Cameron Leary ended an 0-for-20 stretch with a solo home run to right-center field, while De Vries, Milone, Bobby Boser and Ryan Lasko each drove in a run as Midland extended the lead to 8-1.

Milone added a solo home run in the sixth inning against Houston Astros reliever Josh Hader, who was pitching for Corpus Christi on a rehabilitation assignment. Luke Mann later hit a three-run home run in the ninth inning.

Midland starter Jamie Arnold earned the first win of his professional career. Arnold pitched 6 2/3 innings, allowing one run on three hits and four walks while striking out six batters. Reliever JJ Goss closed the game with two scoreless innings.

Conn, De Vries and Angeles each recorded three hits for the RockHounds. Milone finished with two hits, two walks and three RBIs.

De Vries went 3-for-5 with two RBIs, one run scored and two stolen bases. The infielder has recorded hits in six consecutive games and is batting .500 during that stretch. Conn extended his hitting streak to five games with a 3-for-6 performance that included an RBI and a run scored.

The RockHounds entered Thursday having scored 15 total runs during the five-game losing streak. Midland’s 15-hit performance exceeded the combined 19 hits recorded by both teams over the first two games of the series.

With the win, Midland improved to 23-19 and maintained its lead in the Texas League South standings after both Amarillo Sod Poodles and Frisco RoughRiders lost Thursday night.

The series continues Friday at Whataburger Field. Corpus Christi is scheduled to start Nic Swanson against Midland’s Corey Avant.
