Big things are happening at Big Brothers Big Sisters—and at the center of it all is Kayleigh Ussery, the organization’s newly promoted Program Director, who proves you can be smart, driven, and just the right amount of spunky all at once.
Kayleigh’s journey is one of those “blink and you’ll miss it” success stories. After graduating summa cum laude from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in 2021 with a degree in Psychology (yes, she’s that impressive), she joined Big Brothers Big Sisters in September 2025 as an Enrollment Specialist. Fast forward a short time later, and she’s already stepped into a leadership role—proof that when talent meets heart, things move quickly.
But here’s the twist: Kayleigh didn’t always picture herself working with kids. In fact, she was pretty sure she wouldn’t. While many people gravitated toward working with children, she felt called to help adults struggling with depression and anxiety. Her early career path reflected that, but life had other plans. Through hands-on experience working with children with special needs and foster youth, she discovered a new passion—one that blended her desire to make a difference with a healthier emotional balance. That realization ultimately led her right where she’s meant to be.
Now in her new role, Kayleigh brings both compassion and clarity to the work she does. Ask her what she loves most, and she won’t hesitate: it’s watching the relationships between Bigs and Littles grow and thrive. There’s something special about seeing mentorship transform a child’s life—and even more special about working for an organization that’s purely focused on helping kids and families, no strings attached.
Of course, Kayleigh isn’t just about her career (though she’s clearly crushing it). She’s also incredibly proud of the personal milestones she’s achieved along the way—from graduating at the top of her class to building a meaningful career in such a short time. And beyond that? She’s working toward becoming a foster parent and cherishes her role as an aunt to her nephews—two roles that reflect just how deeply she cares about showing up for the next generation.
When she’s not making an impact at work, you’ll likely find Kayleigh catching a movie, hitting the gym, planning a road trip, or spending time with friends and family. She’s also big on staying connected to her community—because for her, making a difference isn’t just a job, it’s a lifestyle.
Looking ahead, Kayleigh’s vision as Program Director is as inspiring as her journey. She’s focused on expanding the organization’s reach, strengthening mentor matches, and ensuring that every child who needs a mentor has the chance to have one. She’s also passionate about building strong community partnerships and continuing to elevate the quality of programs offered.
In short: Kayleigh Ussery is the kind of leader who leads with both heart and hustle—and Big Brothers Big Sisters is all the better for it.
