AST SpaceMobile, a company based in Midland, has signed a 10-year commercial agreement with stc group, one of the largest digital infrastructure providers in the Middle East. This partnership is aimed at developing the world’s first space-based cellular broadband network accessible directly by standard smartphones.

According to a news release, this collaboration represents AST SpaceMobile’s initial regional deal in the market. It includes a $175 million prepayment from stc and a significant long-term commercial commitment to extend mobile coverage across Saudi Arabia and beyond. The agreement involves integrating AST SpaceMobile’s satellite-powered broadband technology with stc’s terrestrial infrastructure to create a hybrid mobile network capable of providing direct 4G and 5G connectivity to ordinary smartphones without requiring specialized hardware or software.

As part of this initiative, AST SpaceMobile will establish three ground gateways in Saudi Arabia and open a Network Operations Center (NOC) in Riyadh. This move aims to strengthen its operational presence in the Kingdom and ensure efficient service management across regional markets.

The deal also reflects both companies’ strategic efforts to bridge digital divides and stimulate economic growth through advanced connectivity. The partnership will enable stc to reach remote and underserved communities, enhancing access to education, e-commerce, and digital services while positioning itself as a leader in next-generation satellite communications.

Commercial services are anticipated to launch in late 2026, subject to regulatory approval from Saudi Arabia’s Communications, Space and Technology Commission (CST) and other regional authorities. For AST SpaceMobile, this collaboration enhances its global presence in direct-to-device connectivity. Meanwhile, for stc, it represents an important step toward expanding its digital ecosystem and solidifying its role as a key enabler of the region’s connected future.
