Mayor Lori Blong expressed gratitude to her supporters for aiding her reelection on Tuesday, Election Day.
According to unofficial final results from the Midland County Elections Office, Blong secured 8,723 votes, or 65%, defeating challenger Judd Campbell, who received 4,660 votes, or 35%.
“Thank you, Midland,” Blong said in a Facebook post. “I’m humbled and grateful for your support. I love this city and I’ll never forget I work for you.”
Blong was first elected mayor in November 2022, succeeding Jerry Morales and becoming the first woman to hold the city’s highest office. A small business owner, she previously served on the Midland City Council.
Blong announced her intention to run for a second term in late July.
Blong said that her most notable accomplishments during her first term included resolving the 20-year firefighter retirement deficit, acquiring a Costco branch for the city, reducing crime rates, and repairing over 20,000 potholes.
“We’ve accomplished a lot these past three years, but there’s more to do,” she said. “Let’s get to work.”
She has also mentioned that serving as mayor is an honor.
In addition to Blong’s reelection, two incumbent city council members were also reelected. Jack Ladd retained his seat representing District 3 while Amy Stretcher Burkes ran unopposed.
