The Bush Family Home State Historic Site is inviting families to step back in time during Spring Break with a slate of fast-paced, hands-on challenges inspired by the 1950s.
From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., visitors can test their skills in a series of “60 Second Challenges” designed to blend fun with history. Participants will rotate through 10 activities that highlight games and everyday tasks familiar to families in the mid-20th century.
Among the challenges are ring toss, shaving a balloon, wooden stick horse racing, a phone book race and croquet. Each activity must be completed within one minute. Prizes will be awarded to competitors who successfully conquer the tasks.
Site Manager Troy Gray said the event offers a lively way to connect with the past.
“This brings fun and excitement to learning about the past technology and life of the 1950s,” Gray said. “This year visitors will be able to get an idea of how even the Bush family would have lived back then.”
The historic home at 1412 W. Ohio St. preserves the Midland residence where George H.W. Bush and Barbara Bush once lived with their young family. Through tours and special programs, the site interprets daily life in Midland during the postwar era.
The Bush Family Home became part of the Texas Historical Commission in 2023 and is one of 42 state historic sites overseen by the agency.
Regular hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, with the last tour beginning at 4:15 p.m. More information about tours and programs is available at visitbushfamilyhome.com.
