A locally owned pie shop rooted in Southern traditions has carved out a loyal following in Midland since opening its doors in 2017.
Buttermilk Sky Pie Shop, located at 4400 N. Midland Drive, Suite 704, specializes in fresh-baked, scratch-made pies and has become a staple for residents seeking classic desserts with a homemade feel. The Midland location is owned by Dwayne and Lisa Forga, whose love of pie sparked the business venture.
“Lisa and Dwayne LOVE PIE and before 2017 there simply was not a shop in their area to find fresh-baked, homemade pies,” the company’s website states. What began as a personal passion “has now become a delicious business the broader Midland area can enjoy.”
The shop offers a rotating selection of pies inspired by Southern recipes, with flavors ranging from fruit-filled classics to rich cream pies. According to the website, customer reactions often reinforce the shop’s mission. “One of our favorite reactions is when a customer takes a bite of pie and says, ‘This tastes just like my grandmother’s pie.’”
Buttermilk Sky Pie Shop operates Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and can be reached at 432-218-8782. In addition to serving individual slices and whole pies, the business emphasizes community involvement through its “Pie It Forward” initiative, which supports local nonprofits.
The program highlights a featured pie flavor each month, with proceeds benefiting an organization in the Midland area. The website describes the effort as “a way for us to give back to our community, one pie at a time.”
The owners also share personal favorites with customers. “Dwayne and Lisa both love our seasonal Lemon Ice Box Pie,” the website notes. When it comes to year-round picks, “Lisa quickly picks Chocolate Cream while Dwayne chooses our (Award-Winning!) Coconut Cream.”
With its focus on scratch baking, community partnerships and nostalgic flavors, Buttermilk Sky Pie Shop continues to build its presence in Midland — one slice at a time.
