Showbiz West Texas is inviting local and regional artists to participate in a special exhibition celebrating the 30th anniversary of Viva La Fiesta.

The exhibit, titled Carros y Cultura, will highlight cars, culture and the creative spirit of the community while honoring three decades of the annual festival. Viva La Fiesta Odessa will take place May 1-3 at the Ector County Coliseum.

Organizers say the show is open to artists working in a variety of mediums, including painting, photography, sculpture, pottery and mixed media.

This year’s theme, “Hispanic Heroes,” allows broad interpretation. Artists may draw inspiration from well-known figures such as Frida Kahlo and Pancho Villa, as well as everyday community members, including teachers, oilfield workers, first responders and musicians. Participants who have attended Viva La Fiesta in the past are encouraged to use personal photos and memories as inspiration for their work.

Winners will be selected through community voting. Fan voting begins May 1, the first day of the festival, and continues through 5 p.m. May 3. The winning artist will be announced later that evening on the community stage and will receive a $500 cash prize.

A $40 nonrefundable entry fee is required for each submission. The fee includes one general admission ticket to Viva La Fiesta on May 3.

Organizers encourage artists to submit their work and take part in a celebration of art, culture and community in West Texas.
