A hands-on ceramic mug workshop will return to Midland at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 7, at Kafeology after the first session sold out quickly.
Lesley Klay, who has hosted similar workshops in Midland and surrounding areas, said the response to the initial event led to scheduling a second session.
“We had such a great response to the first workshop that it only made sense to have another one,” Klay said. “It sold out super quickly, and we received many requests to host another.”
The workshop, held in collaboration with Kafeology, blends creativity and community in what Klay describes as a welcoming, cozy setting.
“Something that Kafeology and myself have in common is that we both value connection and community building, and that was definitely felt with this collab,” she said. “The setting of the cafe made it extra welcoming and cozy.”
Klay said each workshop takes on its own personality, shaped by the participants and their energy. Still, she hears a common theme from attendees.
“I’ve hosted many of these workshops at various places around Midland and the surrounding area, and they’re all unique based on the energy of the group,” she said. “But one thing I hear consistently is that people appreciate having a chance to slow down and create something with their hands. It’s not something we as a society take enough time to do, so people often leave feeling relaxed and peaceful.”
During the approximately two-hour session, participants are guided step by step through the hand-building process. Klay begins with a demonstration of the basics and shows attendees how to create a coffee mug, while emphasizing creative freedom.
“I give a demonstration of the basics and show them how to make a coffee mug while explaining that they have full creative freedom and can make anything they would like,” she said.
Attendance is limited to 20 participants to ensure individualized guidance.
“We keep it intentionally small to ensure everyone receives plenty of individual guidance if needed,” Klay said.
Tickets are $75 and include materials and instruction. Participants can register through the calendar link on Klay’s Instagram page, @itsfabulesley, or messaging @kafeologywtx.
Klay said the workshop welcomes a variety of attendees.
“I see every kind of group — besties, couples, even solo people who want to try something new while meeting new people,” she said. “Anyone who wants to get creative and connect with others would enjoy this experience.”
