Congressman August Pfluger, Chairman of the U.S. Air Force Academy Board of Visitors, welcomed Erika Kirk to the Board on Mar. 10 following her appointment by President Trump to replace her late husband, Charlie Kirk.

The appointment comes after Charlie Kirk, who served as a presidential appointee on the Board, was killed six months ago. Erika Kirk’s selection is intended to continue his work and legacy at the Academy.

“I applaud President Trump for appointing Erika Kirk to the U.S. Air Force Academy Board of Visitors. I encouraged this appointment as Erika is the right person to fill Charlie’s place on the Board and continue his work of inspiring the next generation of service members and advancing the Academy. I look forward to working alongside her to carry on Charlie’s legacy,” said Chairman Pfluger.

Pfluger sent a letter to President Trump recommending Erika Kirk for this role after Charlie Kirk’s death in the fall. The move highlights efforts by leadership to maintain continuity and support for the U.S. Air Force Academy during a period of transition.

Pfluger has represented Texas’ 11th district in Congress since 2021, succeeding Mike Conaway according to Ballotpedia. He won his seat in 2020 by defeating Jon Mark Hogg with nearly 80 percent of the vote as reported by Ballotpedia. Born in Houston in 1978, Pfluger currently resides in San Angelo.
