Christi Craddick, a Texas public official and candidate for Comptroller, used her social media platform on October 17 and 18, 2025, to outline her opposition to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives in government spending. In a series of posts, Craddick pledged to prioritize what she described as core state functions over funding for progressive programs.

On October 17, Craddick stated: “Taxpayer dollars should never be wasted on DEI experiments or woke bureaucracy. As Comptroller, I’ll audit every budget, expose hidden agendas, and make sure government is working for Texans. Not funding progressive ideology.”

Later that day, she reiterated her stance by posting: “Texas dollars should go to roads, schools, and law enforcement, not to DEI programs or woke experiments. As Comptroller, I’ll make sure your money funds real priorities – or goes back to YOU – not radical ideology. Government should reflect Texas values, not undermine them.”

On October 18, Craddick announced plans for increased oversight at the local level: “Texans work hard, and local governments should too. As Comptroller, I’ll launch a Local Government Efficiency Task Force to root out hidden spending, expose woke waste, and demand accountability.”

The role of the Texas Comptroller includes overseeing the state’s finances by collecting taxes and managing expenditures. The office also conducts audits of state agencies and provides guidance on fiscal policy.

In recent years across Texas and other states in the U.S., there has been increasing debate about the allocation of public funds toward DEI programs within government entities. Critics argue such initiatives represent unnecessary spending or ideological overreach; supporters contend they address longstanding inequities in public institutions.
