What began on Amanda Moffitt’s dining room table in the winter of 2019 has grown into a jewelry brand worn by women across the country.
Lola & Tae officially launched in January 2020. Moffitt, who earned her bachelor’s degree from Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi and her master’s degree from Texas A&M University, previously spent eight years as a teacher and four years as a school counselor before leaving education to run her business full time.
She said the growth of the brand has been both humbling and eye-opening.
“What has surprised me most is how deeply women connect to meaningful jewelry,” Moffitt said. “I always believed jewelry could tell a story, but I didn’t realize just how powerful that connection would be. Women aren’t just buying a necklace, they’re carrying their children’s names, honoring someone they love, celebrating a milestone, or reminding themselves of who they are. Watching Lola & Tae grow from my dining room table into a brand women across the country wear every day has been incredibly humbling.”
Entrepreneurship has required resilience, she said.
“I’ve also been surprised by how much grit entrepreneurship requires. It’s equal parts creativity and resilience and I’ve grown just as much as the business has.”
Leaving her role as a school counselor was not easy.
“Honestly, it was both exciting and terrifying,” Moffitt said. “Being a school counselor was meaningful work, and walking away from a stable career took a lot of faith. But I kept feeling pulled toward building something of my own, something creative and flexible that also allowed me to be present for my family.”
Lola & Tae designs jewelry that is “modern, on-trend, and meant to be lived in,” with pieces that are “waterproof, sweatproof, and made for real life — school drop-offs, workouts, beach trips, date nights.”
“But what truly sets us apart is the meaning behind our pieces,” she said. “We don’t just sell jewelry. We create pieces that feel personal and lasting.”
Looking ahead, Moffitt said, “My goal isn’t just growth for growth’s sake. It’s building a sustainable, long-term brand that supports our community, creates jobs, and continues to design pieces women truly love.”
