Texas Governor Greg Abbott has made several statements on social media regarding state laws, criminal justice, and economic policy in early February 2026.
On February 1, Abbott addressed the issue of medical procedures for minors, stating: “Of course it is malpractice to perform a sex transition medical procedure on a minor. In Texas, I also signed a law making it illegal.”
The following day, Abbott commented on local prosecution practices and proposed new measures for statewide justice. On February 2 he wrote: “When local progressive DAs refuse to prosecute violent criminals, Texans pay the price. That’s why I’m calling for a Chief State Prosecutor. Justice is not optional in Texas.”
On February 3, Abbott turned his attention to the state’s economy and tax policy: “The Texas economy remains very strong. That increase in sales tax revenue must be returned to taxpayers to cut their property taxes.”
Abbott has previously supported legislation prohibiting gender-affirming care for minors in Texas and advocated for increased oversight of district attorneys who decline certain prosecutions. He has also prioritized property tax relief as part of his administration’s economic agenda.
