A hard-fought game between Odessa Permian and Midland Legacy concluded with a dramatic finish on Friday night, as Permian secured a 51-48 victory with a game-winning field goal as time expired.

According to Victory+ Sports, the back-and-forth matchup lived up to its storied history, with both teams trading significant plays in a high-scoring showcase in West Texas. “Rivalry game lived up to the billing,” said Victory+ Sports in a Meta post.

MaxPreps reported that the road team had won the previous three meetings between these programs, and that trend continued as Permian emerged victorious once again. Despite Midland Legacy’s strong offensive performance, which surpassed its scoring total from the previous week, it was not enough to overcome Permian’s final drive and decisive kick.

Midland Legacy delivered a balanced offensive performance despite the loss. Ja’Braylen Anders led with 173 receiving yards and a touchdown, including a notable 72-yard breakaway play. Quarterback Hayes Hamm contributed two touchdowns of his own, keeping the Rebels competitive until the closing seconds.

The defeat marked Midland Legacy’s first district loss, dropping them to 2-1 in district play and 3-5 overall. Meanwhile, Permian extended its winning streak to seven games, improving to 7-1 for the season. Both teams now prepare for road matchups next week: Legacy will face Midland on Friday at 7:30 p.m., while Permian travels to take on Frenship at 7 p.m., where they will contend with a Tigers offense that has scored at least 31 points in six consecutive games.
