David Jerome Porter, born April 21, 1956, is a Texan politician and accountant who served on the Texas Railroad Commission from 2011 to 2017. Originally a certified public accountant in Midland, he moved to Giddings after retiring. Raised in Fort Lewis, Washington, Porter earned his degree from Harding University in Arkansas in 1977. He became a CPA in 1981 and relocated to Midland that year, focusing his accounting practice on the oil industry. Porter was active in Midland’s community, serving on the Hospital District Board from 1989 to 1991. A committed Republican, he won the party’s primary in 2010 and went on to secure victory in the general election. During his time on the commission, he promoted initiatives such as the Texas Natural Gas Initiative. Recognized as “Man of the Year” and for his economic policies, Porter’s impact extended beyond Midland. His colleagues on the Railroad Commission included Christi Craddick of Austin and Ryan Sitton of Friendswood. As of 2021, Porter maintained ownership in a Texas oil and gas company.
