The Midland College Lady Chaps will look to snap a three-game conference skid Monday night when they host Howard College at the Chaparral Center in a key WJCAC matchup.
According to a news release, the Lady Chaps enter the game with a 12-9 overall record and a 1-5 standing in conference play, following a loss to Western Texas College. Meanwhile, Howard College holds a 16-6 overall record and is second in league action with a 5-1 record. This game concludes the first half of the 2026 conference season.
Midland head coach Ron Jones is expected to rely heavily on sophomore players Diana Szakolczi, Latisha Wilson, and Sumaiya Ibrahim as the Lady Chaps attempt to regain their momentum. Howard averages 81 points per game compared to Midland’s 65, indicating that the Lady Chaps will need one of their strongest defensive performances of the season to slow down Howard’s high-powered offense.
On the men’s side, the Midland College Chaps approach Monday’s matchup with a strong 19-2 overall record and a 5-2 mark in the WJCAC. Howard College matches Midland’s overall record at 19-2 and leads the conference standings at 6-1, with Midland holding second place just ahead of Odessa College.
Midland will look to sophomores Darius Carr and Antoine “Bo” Hurns, along with freshmen Yeison Liberato and Cayden Reed, to keep pace with league-leading Howard. Carr leads the Chaps with an average of 16.7 points per game, followed by Hurns at 13.6 points per game. Howard is led by Terry Copeland’s average of 19.1 points per contest and Daniel Culberson’s average of 12.7 points per game. A win for either Midland squad would provide a timely boost heading into the second half of conference play.
