The Midland College softball team improved to an 8-0 record after sweeping a doubleheader against Trinidad State College at Lady Chaps Field. According to a news release, Midland powered its way to 10-2 and 7-0 victories, out-hitting the Trojans 23-7 across the two games. Anays Perez set the tone in the opener, striking out 10 batters to earn the win, while Marie Rondeau secured the shutout victory in Game 2 as the Lady Chaps controlled all phases of play. Wet weather cut the weekend short when overnight showers saturated the field and forced the cancellation of Saturday’s scheduled doubleheader against No. 20-ranked Navarro College after the infield was deemed unplayable. Midland will next travel to Weatherford College on February 20 for a doubleheader against the Coyotes, with first pitch set for 1 p.m.

On the baseball diamond, a news release noted that the No. 25-ranked Chaparrals continued their strong start to the season by improving to a 9-0 record with four more wins over the weekend. Midland outscored Luna Community College by a combined score of 30-4 in Friday’s doubleheader (20-0, 10-4) before defeating Seward County Community College by scores of 6-4 and 17-4 on Saturday. Through nine games, Midland has scored 53 runs over their last four contests and is averaging 15.5 runs per game this season.

Sophomore Stevyn Andrachick has led this offensive surge for Midland baseball, batting .645 through nine games. The team returns to action Wednesday against Vernon College in a matchup at Lubbock Christian University’s Larry Hays Field before traveling later this month for additional games in Temple and Weatherford.

Midland College has secured multiple National Junior College Athletic Association national titles in golf and basketball, as per its official website. The college contributes to community development by empowering students to enhance their local areas and has expanded its campus facilities through bond issues and donations over time. Dr. Damon Kennedy leads Midland College as its president.
