The City of Midland has commenced its countdown to the annual Merry Lights celebration, marking 40 days until the event as of Wednesday.
Merry Lights, sponsored by ConocoPhillips and Chevron, is set to begin on December 2 at Centennial Park, located at 200 W. Wall St. According to an October 22 Facebook post, the City of Midland initiated the countdown with the launch of a new website.
The city said that the public can plan their visit and explore events on the website. “Get ready for the most wonderful time of the year,” said city officials.
Organizers describe Merry Lights as “a heartwarming event that transforms downtown Midland into a winter wonderland.” The event website says it is “a festive celebration” that unites the community with light displays, interactive installations for all ages, and cheerful music. Visitors are encouraged to stroll along illuminated pathways, take holiday photos at charming spots, and enjoy exclusive specials from local businesses, including extended hours, seasonal treats, and festive discounts.
A tree lighting ceremony will mark the official start of the holiday season in Midland. This event is being jointly hosted by the city and the Midland Downtown Park Conservancy.
Additional festivities include a hot chocolate night on December 12 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., followed by a Christmas parade on December 13.
