The Midland College Alumni Association announced on April 14 that it will hold the Hometown Hoops family-friendly basketball event at the Chap Center on Saturday, April 18, from 4 to 7 p.m. The event aims to bring together faculty, staff, students, and community members for an evening of sports and fundraising.
Proceeds from Hometown Hoops will support the MC Alumni Association Transfer Scholarship, which helps Midland College students continue their education at four-year institutions. The association said this initiative focuses on student success by raising funds through concessions and participation fees.
“Hometown Hoops is exactly what the Alumni Association is all about,” Tim Jakel, President of the Midland College Alumni Association, said. “We’re really focused on bringing people together in support of students. Every shot taken, every dunk made, and every purchase at the event helps open doors for MC students as they take the next step in their academic journey. We’re proud to champion opportunities that keep student success at the center of everything we do.”
The schedule includes free play with MC basketball players from 4–5 p.m., a three-point contest at 5 p.m., and a dunk contest at 6 p.m., each with entry fees for participants. Prizes and goodie bags will be awarded to winners. A vendor market featuring local businesses such as Kendra Scott jewelry and baked goods will be available along with a silent auction offering items like autographed basketballs and gift certificates.
Food options include Exquisite Catering BBQ sandwiches for purchase. Admission is free for all attendees.
