The Midland County government announced that the area will participate in the Texas Division of Emergency Management’s statewide test of local alerting systems on April 2.

The purpose of the drill is to ensure that emergency alerts function properly when needed most, officials said. “Regular training and testing of public warning systems builds readiness before disaster strikes and is an important component of community safety. Conducting drills to reaffirm procedures, promote confidence in technological tools, and identify potential shortfalls is key to ensuring these systems operate with precision, accuracy, and timeliness when they are needed the most,” Texas Division of Emergency Management head Nim Kidd saidin a press release.

Participating organizations have been asked by the state agency to provide an update after completing the drill. This update should include a summary, key takeaways, and any relevant details about how well the local system performed during the test according to TDEM.

The statewide exercise aims to improve preparedness and ensure that both technology and procedures are effective in reaching residents during emergencies.
