The Midland Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (MHCC) hosted two non-profit organizations focused on children’s welfare during its monthly Café con Pan networking event on October 8.
According to an October 15 Facebook post shared by the chamber, this month’s featured speakers were representatives from CASA of West Texas and Safe Place in the Permian Basin. The MHCC said that the groups discussed children’s advocacy and domestic violence prevention as part of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, which is observed throughout October.
“We gathered for a powerful morning of connection and awareness,” the MHCC said. “Together, we’re building a more informed, compassionate Midland—one conversation at a time.”
Domestic Violence Awareness Month was established in 1981 and was initially observed as a national “Day of Unity,” according to the National Domestic Violence Hotline. The month aims to unite advocates nationwide in their efforts to end domestic violence.
The MHCC explained that Café con Pan is held every second Wednesday of the month and brings together local business owners, professionals, and community members to enjoy complimentary coffee and pan de dulce while engaging in conversation in a relaxed atmosphere. The next Café con Pan is scheduled for November 12.
