Midland Independent School District announced on March 27 that Bunche Elementary will begin implementing the Accelerating Campus Excellence (ACE) Model starting with the 2026–27 school year.
The district said this move aims to strengthen student outcomes and improve the overall experience for students at Bunche Elementary. The ACE Model is described as a proven turnaround strategy used in more than 40 campuses across Texas, reportedly impacting over 50,000 students.
According to Midland ISD, schools using the ACE Model have shown substantial gains in student performance, with some moving from F ratings to B ratings within a single year. The approach focuses on attracting and retaining effective teachers through strategic staffing and incentives, using research-based instructional materials and practices, and extending learning time for additional academic support.
“This is an exciting opportunity for Bunche Elementary and the entire Midland ISD community,” said Erin Bueno of Midland ISD. “By implementing the ACE Model, we are investing in our students, staff, and the future of this campus. We are confident that this work will lead to stronger academic outcomes, increased engagement, and a more enriching experience for students at Bunche Elementary.”
The district also introduced Dr. Augustina Lozano as the new principal of Bunche Elementary on March 24. Dr. Lozano brings 26 years of experience in education with roles including classroom teacher, bilingual/ESL program coordinator, adjunct professor, high school administrator, and elementary principal. She has overseen instructional programs focused on achievement and quality while supporting staff development through feedback and resources.
District officials say that adopting the ACE Model reflects their ongoing commitment to providing high-quality education so every student can access needed resources for success.
