Midland Independent School District (ISD) is marking the second anniversary of its $1.4 billion Bond 2023, which has facilitated significant progress in construction and renovation projects across the district aimed at enhancing student learning environments.
According to a social media post titled “Happy Bond Day, Midland,” the district has achieved milestones such as the opening of Lone Star Trails Elementary, ongoing construction at new high schools, and districtwide safety and security upgrades. These projects have been completed on schedule and within budget.
The Midland Times previously reported that district officials disclosed at an October board meeting that $1.39 billion of the bond funds had been allocated across 11 project groups, leaving approximately $110 million for future phases. Engineer Zane Edwards from Parkhill said that Lone Star Trails Elementary reached its one-year warranty milestone with 85% of its 639 punch-list items completed. The campus’s final cost was projected at $42.9 million, significantly under its original $53.3 million bond allocation.
Construction continues at the district’s two new high schools, with earthwork and foundation preparation underway. The board recently approved a $120 million Guaranteed Maximum Price package to secure key mechanical and roofing contractors, ensuring project timelines are maintained.
Other improvements are being implemented across existing campuses. Fire sprinkler installations at elementary schools are expected to be completed by December, while new classroom and administration wings at Goddard Junior High and Midland Freshman High School will commence soon. Additional modernization efforts — including classroom additions, library upgrades, and kitchen renovations at Alamo and Abel middle schools — are anticipated to continue into 2027 as the district aims to minimize disruptions during the school year.
