The Midland RockHounds began the countdown to their 2026 season Wednesday.
The announcement signals the approach of the team’s first game of the upcoming campaign, which is scheduled for April 2. According to a Facebook post shared by the RockHounds, there are 28 days until the ballclub’s first game of the upcoming campaign at Momentum Bank Ballpark on April 2. The RockHounds will host the Arkansas Travelers through April 4.
A picture of pitcher Shohei Tomioka, who wears number 28, was included in the post to signify the countdown. Tomioka posted a 3.64 ERA through 37 games as a reliever for Midland in 2025… The 30-year-old Japanese right-hander was promoted to the Athletics organization last month, according to Minor League Baseball.
The upcoming season will be notable for several reasons. The RockHounds will play their 54th season as a franchise in West Texas. It will be their third with manager Gregorio Petit, who re-signed with the ballclub last month, according to a Facebook post by the team.
The team continues preparations for Opening Day and looks ahead to another year under Petit’s leadership.
