Players and coaches with the Midland RockHounds met with local media during media day at Momentum Bank Ballpark ahead of the 2026 season.
The event featured interviews with returning players and new coaching staff as the team prepares for Opening Day.
Pitching coach Javiera Guerrk, entering his second season with the club, said he is focused on player development, particularly among the pitching staff.
“We’ve got a good group coming, and I think we’ve got a lot of fun ahead of us,” Guerrk said. “These guys are ready to take the next step in their career.”
Guerrk said his role has helped him better understand the development process at the Double-A level after transitioning into coaching following his playing career. He previously played in organizations including the Los Angeles Dodgers, Chicago White Sox and Los Angeles Angels.
Catcher Shane McGuire said returning to Midland has helped him grow both on and off the field.
“I think it’s helped me grow as a player,” McGuire said. “Just building relationships with the staff here and coming back multiple years, it’s helped me mentally.”
McGuire, who is from Seattle, said he has adjusted to West Texas after previously playing in California and the Pacific Northwest. He added that one of his career highlights was playing at T-Mobile Park during his high school championship.
First base coach and assistant hitting coach Beau Taylor said his transition from player to coach has allowed him to stay connected to the game.
“I do miss being out there, but I’m on the field every inning, so it still kind of feels like I’m playing,” Taylor said.
Taylor, who spent parts of six seasons playing for Midland, said returning to the organization felt natural.
“It feels like home,” Taylor said. “I’ve always loved the organization and what they preach about baseball.”
He said his experience with other organizations has helped prepare him to guide players working toward reaching the major leagues.
Media day also included lighter moments, as players and staff answered questions about team mascots and personal preferences, highlighting the team’s clubhouse culture ahead of the new season.
The RockHounds will open the 2026 season starting this week, April 2, 2026.
