The Midland Soup Kitchen Ministry visited the Midland International Air & Space Port on Thursday to provide free meals to Transportation Security Administration (TSA) agents. This initiative comes as the federal government shutdown extends into its fourth week.

During the shutdown, according to a Facebook post by the ministry dated October 30, TSA agents have been required to report for duty without receiving pay. “They continue to work without pay and are finding it difficult to afford a meal during their lunch break,” the Midland Soup Kitchen Ministry (MSKM) said.

According to the non-profit organization, the agents received complimentary lunches as part of its ongoing commitment to assist those in need during the shutdown. “These individuals are heroes, and it’s an honor to serve them,” said MSKM.

The ministry concluded its post by expressing gratitude towards federal workers who continue their duties despite not receiving paychecks and urged for prayers for a resolution that would reopen the government.

Founded in 1984 by Mariano and Mary Rendon, the ministry began with meals prepared in their home kitchen. It has since grown into Midland’s largest provider of free lunches for those in need.
