The Midland Soup Kitchen Ministry is set to host its 39th Annual Thanksgiving Community Lunch on November 26. The event, announced via an October 27 Facebook post by the non-profit organization, will be held at 1401 Orchard Lane from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The meal is offered free of charge to anyone who wishes to attend.

According to the Midland Soup Kitchen Ministry (MSKM), the meal will be prepared “straight from our family recipe books.” Attendees are not required to answer questions or register for the event, which remains open to the public.

Despite challenges posed by the federal government shutdown, MSKM has assured the community of its dedication to aiding those in need. In a previous Facebook post, it said that it would continue providing free home-cooked meals and clothing as much as possible.

The ministry was founded in 1984 by Mariano and Mary Rendon. It began with meals cooked in their home kitchen and has since expanded into the largest free lunch service available for those in need in Midland.
