The Midland College Chaparrals men’s basketball team is set to begin a new chapter on Tuesday, November 4, as they open the 2025-26 season with an away game against Weatherford College.

According to a news release, this matchup will mark the debut of new head coach Isaac Fontenot-Amedee. He was promoted to lead the program following last season’s 20-11 campaign and Region 5 Tournament appearance. This year’s roster will feature significant changes, with only one returning player from last season—Antoine “Bo” Hurns. Hurns, a 6’8″ shooting guard who averaged 14 points and nearly six rebounds per game as a freshman, was an All-WJCAC Honorable Mention selection. He will be joined by six sophomore transfers and nine freshmen as Midland College aims to build chemistry under its new leadership.

Fontenot-Amedee will have support on the bench from new assistant coach Covis “CJ” Williams. Williams brings experience from both NCAA Division I and junior college levels, including time at Stephen F. Austin State University and Hill College. The two have previously worked together at Hill College, where Fontenot-Amedee coached and Williams played and later coached.

The Chaps’ season opener is a rematch of their final game from last year’s Region 5 Tournament against the Weatherford Coyotes in Waco. Following this road test, Midland College will return home to host the 3rd Annual Bob Chapman Classic at the Al G. Langford Chaparral Center from November 7 through 9. The event will feature top competition including #9 Odessa College, #19 Howard College, Salt Lake Community College, Hillsborough Community College (FL), and Strength N Motion.
