No. 25 Chaparrals open season with sweep at Wharton County

The No. 25 Midland College baseball team opened the 2026 season with authority, sweeping a three-game series at Wharton County Junior College on January 28–29 in Wharton.

According to a news release, the Chaparrals secured victories of 15-4, 13-7, and 22-11 to begin the year with a 3-0 record. The offensive prowess of Midland College was evident throughout the series, with standout performances from Caleb Eagar, Stevyn Andrachick, Logan Flores, Augden Hallmark, and Jorge Gil. Gil, a sophomore from Cypress, achieved a cycle in the series finale. Andrachick, a sophomore from Kalispell, Montana, went 7-for-12 with seven RBIs, two walks, and two sacrifice flies over the three games.

Eagar, hailing from Fort Worth, concluded the series 6-for-11 with four RBIs, seven walks, and a home run. Flores secured the win in the opener while Hallmark claimed victory in game two as the Chaparrals combined effective hitting with consistent pitching to dominate the series.

Midland College is set to open its home schedule this weekend against Trinidad State College of Colorado at Christensen Stadium. The teams will face off in a doubleheader on Friday, February 6th at noon and will conclude with a single game on Saturday, February 7th at noon. Trinidad State enters this matchup holding a 1-7 record for the season.
