Congressman August Pfluger, who represents Texas’ 11th district in the U.S. Congress, recently voted to pass S. 1383, known as the SAVE America Act, which aims to implement new requirements for voting in federal elections. The legislation is intended to ensure that only American citizens are able to participate in U.S. elections.

After casting his vote, Congressman Pfluger released a statement: “Hey, Texas-11. This is Congressman Pfluger. I want you to know that I just voted to pass the SAVE America Act. It does a couple of things that are common sense. Number one, it requires you to register to vote and to prove your citizenship, and then when you go and vote, it requires you to provide a government-issued ID. This is common sense. We need the Senate to pass this now. Most Americans, to the tune of 85%, agree that we should have election integrity.”

The bill was introduced by Representative Chip Roy from Texas’ 21st district and Senator Mike Lee of Utah. It builds on the earlier SAVE Act passed by the House nearly 300 days ago but not yet considered by the Senate.

Key provisions in the enhanced version include requiring eligible photo identification before voting and mandating states verify proof of citizenship in person during voter registration. States would also be required to remove non-citizens from existing voter rolls.

Pfluger has served as representative for Texas’ 11th district since replacing Mike Conaway in 2021. He won his seat in Congress after defeating Jon Mark Hogg in the 2020 general election with nearly 80 percent of the vote.

Born in Houston in 1978, Pfluger currently resides in San Angelo.
