A brief pitchers’ duel between new Midland starter Kenya Huggins and Frisco’s Josh Trentadue dissolved into the RockHounds’ first loss of the season Tuesday, a 9-1 road defeat to the RoughRiders.
The outcome marks a shift for Midland, whose offense had produced more than 20 hits during a three-game sweep of Arkansas earlier in the season. The team managed only four hits against Frisco, with Tommy White collecting two of them. Leo De Vries scored Midland’s lone run in the fourth inning on a wild pitch, but the lineup was otherwise held in check according to Minor League Baseball.
Kenya Huggins, making his Double-A debut after joining the RockHounds in March, kept Frisco scoreless through two innings before allowing four runs in the bottom of the third. The 23-year-old right-hander was charged with the loss according to Minor League Baseball.
After falling behind early, Midland gave up five additional runs and was unable to mount a comeback against their hosts according to Minor League Baseball. The series is scheduled to continue Wednesday at 7 p.m.
