Seven Midland ISD swim and dive student-athletes have been recognized among the best in Texas for their work in the classroom, earning Texas High School Coaches Association Academic All-State honors for the 2025-26 school year.
The recognition highlights the academic achievements of these students, who have balanced rigorous coursework with varsity athletic competition. The THSCA Academic All-State program recognizes senior student-athletes, trainers, and managers who excel in GPA, class rank, and ACT or SAT performance. Selections are based on a combination of those measures, highlighting students who balance the demands of high-level academics with varsity competition, according to the THSCA.
According to a THSCA news release, Midland High School’s Aubree Cruce and Hannah Krueger were each named to the second team. Legacy High School added Braden Harvill and David Fuentes as second-team honorees, while Lainey Gloden and Lauren Chandler received honorable mention. Cora Retzer of the Young Women’s Leadership Academy also earned honorable mention accolades.
MISD Executive Director of Athletics Wes Torres praised the group’s achievement on X. “The honor reflects the district’s emphasis on developing success both in competition and in the classroom (…) The recognition places the seven athletes among an elite group statewide and underscores the commitment required to perform at a high level across all arenas,” Torres said (source).
The Midland Independent School District aims to enhance student achievement and support diverse groups through targeted educational and assistance programs. The district collaborates with the Midland Education Foundation to finance initiatives in academics, fine arts, robotics, STEM, history and other areas. It operates under Superintendent Stephanie Howard and functions as a public education entity overseeing programs in alignment with state guidelines (official website).
The recognition of these student-athletes reflects ongoing efforts by Midland ISD to promote excellence both inside and outside the classroom.
