The Sibley Nature Center Camera Club is hosting two upcoming programs in April and May, giving area residents a chance to develop photography skills while exploring local landscapes.
The first event is April 4 at 9 a.m. at Watersong Wild Space. Participants will join photographers Bob Crites and Kat Crites for a guided session through the preserve, where attendees can practice photography techniques in an outdoor setting.
The Camera Club will continue its programming May 2 at 10 a.m. at Sibley Nature Center, featuring a presentation by Richard A. Acosta, an award-winning photographer known for his night photography.
Acosta, the Grand Prize winner of the Palo Duro Canyon Photo Contest, is recognized for capturing star-filled landscapes and nighttime scenes that blend technical precision with creative storytelling. During his presentation, he will share techniques for photographing the night sky, along with creative approaches to astrophotography.
Following the May program, Acosta will also join participants on a photography trip to Marfa, where attendees can practice night photography under the region’s dark skies while receiving guidance and feedback.
Founded in 2008, the Camera Club has grown into a community resource for photographers of all experience levels. In a 2024 interview, club leader Alicia Fulton highlighted the group’s role in fostering connection through a shared interest in photography.
“Photography brings people together with shared interests, regardless of their background or age,” Fulton said.
The club offers a range of learning opportunities, including workshops, guest speakers and field trips designed to help participants build both technical skills and creative confidence.
Meetings are typically held on the first Saturday of each month, and both upcoming events are open to the public.
