A new state filing shows additional construction is planned at the IDEA Henry campus in Midland as the charter network prepares to expand the school with a new high school wing.
The planned development is intended to support continued growth at the Midland campus. According to a recent social media post by IDEA Public Schools, “IDEA Henry, located on Briarwood Avenue near Avalon Drive, broke ground on Phase I in October and is slated to open in August 2026 for the 2026-2027 academic year. The Phase II expansion signals continued investment in the Midland campus as the network builds out facilities to accommodate additional grade levels and student enrollment.”
According to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, the project—listed as IDEA Henry Phase II—calls for a 31,950-square-foot addition to the existing campus at 5820 Briarwood Ave. The $12 million project will include new classrooms, dedicated science labs, student restrooms, and a staff break room. Site work also outlines the development of a new practice soccer field. The filing indicates construction is scheduled to begin April 30, 2026, with completion targeted for June 1, 2027. As with all state filings, timelines are preliminary and subject to change.
IDEA Public Schools, headquartered in Weslaco, is listed as the property owner for this project. Sylvia Pena, the district’s director of construction, is leading its development. Houston-based Corgan has been identified as the design firm for this phase of construction while Stephen D. MacPhie is named as the registered accessibility specialist.
The ongoing expansion reflects IDEA Public Schools’ commitment to increasing educational opportunities in Midland through enhanced facilities and resources.
