The Waystone will host its monthly Puzzle Race on Saturday, when teams will compete to complete a puzzle in the fastest time.
The event is scheduled from 11 a.m. to noon March 14 at the taproom. Teams will work together to complete a puzzle featuring wild animal portraits, with the fastest group receiving prizes.
According to organizer Jaylyn, the puzzle races have become a regular event at the brewery.
“We have held monthly puzzle races for three years now,” Jaylyn said. “It was one of the first regular events we offered through our taproom. Initially, it was something fun to do during our slower business hours, but it has grown into an event that the puzzle racing community looks forward to each month.”
The competition is intentionally small to fit the taproom’s table capacity. Only five teams will compete, with each team made up of four to six puzzlers.
“You would think having six would be the best advantage, but sometimes the more hands, the more they get in the way,” Jaylyn said. “It’s absolutely a strategic choice you must make when forming your team.”
The team that completes the puzzle in the fastest time will earn a spot in the next month’s race along with a bag of tokens redeemable for drinks or snacks at the brewery. Teams also get to keep the puzzle they complete.
While the race has a competitive element, Jaylyn said the event’s real appeal lies in its social atmosphere.
“While each team will say winning the race is nice, it’s really all about the social aspect: getting together on a Saturday morning to enjoy a fun activity,” Jaylyn said. “We love bringing people together over more than just beer.”
The event costs $5 per participant, and teams can register by emailing [email protected] or messaging the brewery on social media.
