The Waystone will host a hands-on toadstool painting event from 6 to 8 p.m. March 18 at 2101 W. Wadley Ave., Suite 27, to celebrate the arrival of spring.
The “Fun with Fungi” event invites attendees to paint decorative wooden toadstools for $5 per bundle, with all supplies provided and no reservations required.
Organizers said the come-as-you-are format is designed to encourage creativity and community connection.
General Manager Janece Brown said the idea for the event was inspired by the symbolism of the season.
“I feel toadstools are one of the many magical symbols that signify the welcoming of spring,” Brown said. “The weather is getting warmer, people are starting to plant, spring cleaning is underway, and life overall is kind of ‘returning.’”
Brown said the activity offers a simple, creative way for people to celebrate that seasonal shift, whether by adding their painted pieces to a fairy garden or using them as home décor.
“The main goal is for everyone to have a fun, relaxed, and creative time and to leave with personally painted pieces that mark that moment and the beginning of a new season,” she said.
The Waystone is known for its distinct atmosphere, which blends a cozy, imaginative setting with social activities.
“Our atmosphere is warm and inviting, giving both new people and regulars the feeling that they aren’t (really) in Midland,” Brown said. “If you’re checking us out closer to the evening, it can definitely be a bit more lively with a fuller house and ongoing board games.”
Brown added that events like this play an important role in fostering community.
“We want people to feel cozy, almost at home, enjoying quality time with friends and family, and to have an opportunity to break away from daily stresses,” she said.
