West Texas FC announced Monday that head coach Scotty Murray has been hired as the assistant coach of the men’s soccer team at Franklin Pierce University in New Hampshire.

The move comes about three months after West Texas FC re-signed Murray for its 2026 season, which would have been his third with the team. The club congratulated and expressed its support for Murray in a social media post. “West Texas FC is behind you every step of the way, and we’re excited to see all the great things you’ll do at Franklin,” WTFC said on Facebook.

Murray will join a staff led by Diego Thielen, who was promoted to head coach after Travis Brent resigned to become associate head coach at the University of Vermont, according to Franklin Pierce University.

Since his first season with West Texas FC in 2024, Murray, originally from Australia, posted a combined record of 19-4-4 and secured two consecutive Lone Star Conference regular season championships. Last year, after leading the club to eight wins, three losses and one draw, Murray was nominated for Coach of the Year. He is a graduate of Bluefield University in Virginia with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and Faulkner University in Alabama with a master’s degree in business analytics. His soccer experience spans Australia, the United States and the United Kingdom, according to Midland Times.

Murray joins Franklin Pierce following recent changes within their coaching staff.
