San Antonio striker Diego Robles has signed with West Texas FC, the club announced Monday.
The addition of Robles brings a new forward to the WTFC lineup ahead of the upcoming season. The club said Robles joined from the University of the Incarnate Word, where he is a member of the Cardinals men’s soccer team. Prior to enrolling at UIW, the 6-foot Robles attended Johnson High School in the North East Independent School District in San Antonio, according to a Facebook post from the club.
Robles is currently a sophomore at UIW and has established himself as one of the premier forwards in NCAA Division I soccer in Texas. He started in all 18 matches for the Cardinals in their recent fall campaign. In his two seasons with the program, Robles has logged more than 2,000 minutes and recorded eight goals and five assists, according to WTFC.
Robles’ high school career at Johnson was among the most decorated in recent memory at the school, where he earned MVP honors twice. He posted 81 goals as a four-year letterman for the Jaguars. Head coach Scotty Murray praised Robles’ signing as a huge addition to the WTFC frontline. “Goals will come this summer with him,” Murray said, according to WTFC.
Further details about Robles’ role or contract terms were not disclosed by West Texas FC.
