YWLA swim and dive team honored after capturing UIL 4A State Championship

The celebration of a historic season continued this week as the Young Women’s Leadership Academy of Midland swim and dive team was recognized by the City Council following its UIL Class 4A State Championship victory.

The recognition highlights the team’s achievements during a season in which they secured district, regional, and state titles. The accomplishment is seen as a milestone for both the school and the broader community.

According to a Midland YWLA claimed the Class 4A girls state championship, finishing ahead of Andrews, San Antonio Great Hearts Monte Vista, Frisco Panther Creek, and Great Hearts Northern Oaks. The title capped a dominant postseason run that included district and regional championships.

Following City Council recognition, an all-campus pep rally was held at Young Women’s Leadership Academy. According to the school’s official Facebook page, “Students and staff packed the gym to honor the state champions, applauding not only their athletic excellence but also the sisterhood and resilience that defined their season… For Midland ISD and the broader community, the victory represents more than a trophy — it marks a milestone achievement for a program that continues to set the standard in and out of the pool.”

The Midland Independent School District functions as a public education entity overseeing programs in alignment with state guidelines according to its official website. It aims to enhance student achievement through targeted educational programs; collaborates with partners such as Midland Education Foundation; provides services focusing on academics, fine arts, robotics, STEM, history; operates under Superintendent Stephanie Howard; and traces its origins back to an original one-room schoolhouse established after Midland County’s founding in 1885.
