The YMCA of Midland announced it has received a $2 million grant from the FMH Foundation to support a downtown aquatic and social expansion project.
According to a YMCA press release on May 28, the project will include a zero-entry indoor pool with lap lanes, a whirlpool, recreational water features, upgraded wet areas, sauna and steam room amenities, and expanded outdoor patio space connecting the pool area to other facility amenities, including the playground and gymnasium.
The grant will support the YMCA’s “A Better Place to Connect – Downtown Aquatic & Social Expansion” project, part of the organization’s $15 million capital campaign.
YMCA officials said the expansion will create opportunities for recreation, wellness and community engagement for families and individuals of all ages.
“This transformational gift from the FMH Foundation represents an incredible investment in the health and well-being of our community,” said Christine Bearden, CEO of the YMCA of Midland, in the release. “Their support will help create opportunities for water safety education, wellness, recreation, and social connection for thousands of families for generations to come.”
The YMCA said the new aquatic facility is expected to serve more than 5,000 individuals annually through childcare programming, swim lessons, water safety education, aquatic fitness classes and recreational activities.
“The FMH Foundation is proud to partner with the YMCA of Midland on this transformational investment in our community’s future,” said Joni of the FMH Foundation in the release. “This project reflects our deep commitment to advancing health, wellness, and meaningful connection through innovation and excellence. By supporting this project, we are helping create a dynamic, inclusive space where individuals and families of all ages can learn, grow, and build lasting relationships for generations to come.”
